Uniquely-shaped Jersey Shore house had 4 offers within 24 hours – and it needs work

A uniquely-shaped beachfront house in the Villas got four offers within 24 hours of being listed for sale.

The 16 sided — or hexadecagon — home has three bedrooms and three bathrooms and sits on a beach along the Delaware Bay. It’s priced at $799,999.

“It’s one of the most unique properties I’ve seen in the Cape May area,” said Michelle Roberts-O’Donnell of Long & Foster Cape May, the listing agent.

Villas is a roughly four square mile unincorporated, census-designated place within Lower Township. The median sale price of a home there was $435,000 over the past three months, according to Redfin. It’s known as an affordable alternative to nearby Cape May and Wildwood.

The 16-sided home sits high up on a dune. Its location and unusual shape make it well known to locals, she said.

“You have panoramic views looking out to the water,” Roberts-O’Donnell said. “And it’s protected from the environment because it’s sitting so high on top of the dunes.”

The home was built in 1965. At that time, it was the only house on the dune. “It has this air about it,” she said. “A nostalgic interest.”

The home is being marketed as a fixer-upper or a tear down. At 2,200 square feet, it has an open floor plan, a wood-burning fireplace, views of the bay from the primary bedroom, a spiral staircase leading to the second floor and a deck that wraps halfway around the house.

“You can stand on the deck and listen to the waves,” Roberts-O’Donnell said. “Plus, the bayside of Cape May County has the most stunning sunsets.”

The home is being offered for sale for the first time in 30 years by only its second owner.

It was listed Oct. 22, and had 10 showings and four offers that first day. Another dozen showings were scheduled for Friday.

“There has been unbelievable interest,” she said. “The house needs work so you’re buying the dirt, as they say.”
